It’s National Oatmeal Nut Waffles Day, a time to celebrate the delicious and healthy combination of oatmeal and nuts in waffle form. It’s a perfect way to start your day with a warm, hearty, and crunchy breakfast. Grab your waffle iron, mix in some wholesome oatmeal and nuts, and enjoy a delightful morning treat. It’s a breakfast that’s both tasty and satisfying! Did you know that the first electric waffle iron was patented in 1911? Those early adopters knew what was up! (Source: NationalDayCalendar.com)

On March 11th, 1569, the first official state lottery in England was drawn. This lottery was organized by Queen Elizabeth I to raise funds for public works and was held at the west door of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. Imagine the excitement! The prizes included cash, plates, and tapestries. This lottery was a significant event, marking the beginning of state-sponsored lotteries in England. And now for our Have YOU heard feature of the day! While we often celebrate successful inventions, let’s spare a thought for the truly… ambitious. Did you know that in the late 19th century, inventors were obsessed with human-powered flight? One particularly enthusiastic individual filed a patent for a bicycle equipped with massive, flapping wings! The idea was that by pedaling, the rider would generate enough power to make the wings flap and lift the bicycle into the air. Imagine trying to navigate traffic with that! While this particular invention never quite took off, it’s a testament to the boundless creativity of inventors. (Source: US Patent Office records, late 19th century patent applications)
