“Have YOU heard?” | March 10, 2025

"Have YOU heard?" Show, voice over

🤯 FLYING BICYCLES & TALKING CHICKENS? March 10th is WILD!

Today, March 10th, is National Mario Day! Why? Because MAR10 looks like… Mario! Clever, right? This day is all about celebrating everyone’s favorite plumber-turned-hero. According to NationalDayCalendar.com, it’s a day to “revisit your favorite Mario games, share memories, and maybe even dress up as your favorite character.” So, dust off your Nintendo consoles, grab a mushroom power-up, and get ready to stomp some Goombas! Did you know Mario’s original name was Jumpman? He was first seen in the arcade game Donkey Kong! It’s-a-me, Mario! (Source: NationalDayCalendar.com)

On March 10th, 1921, the first officially recognized human-powered flight took place! Gabriel Poulain, a French cyclist and aviator, flew his “Pouducel” aircraft for about 12 meters. Imagine pedaling your way through the sky! It wasn’t exactly a cross-country flight, but it was a groundbreaking moment in aviation history. This remarkable feat happened at the Parc des Princes velodrome in Paris. It’s truly incredible to think about the dedication and ingenuity it took to make that happen. (Source: OnThisDay.com)

Born on this day in 1940, Chuck Norris turns 85 years young today! The martial arts legend who doesn’t do push-ups – he pushes the Earth down! Did you know that before his acting career, Chuck was a six-time undefeated World Professional Middleweight Karate Champion? It’s true! But the real reason doctors slapped him when he was born wasn’t to make him cry – it was to apologize for the delivery room walls he had already roundhouse kicked!
His birth certificate actually has a threat level warning! And his computer has no “ctrl” button because Chuck Norris is always in control!

And now for our Have YOU heard feature of the day! Let’s dive into the wonderfully weird world of patents. Did you know that on this very day, March 10th, 1876, Alexander Graham Bell made the first successful telephone call? Yes, a landmark moment! But let’s veer off the beaten path. While Bell was revolutionizing communication, other inventors were… well, trying. Take, for instance, Andrew Jackson Bellows, who, in 1925, filed a patent for a machine that would translate chicken clucks. Yes, you heard that right! He believed he could decode poultry patter into human speech. Imagine the possibilities! “Hey, Farmer John, the eggs are ready!” Or, “Danger! Fox in the henhouse!” Sadly, Bellows’ invention never quite took flight. (Source: US Patent Office records)
