January 17: The Day the Popsicle Was Accidentally Created and 3 other CHILL things to celebrate 🎉

Have YOU heard? January 17
Today is National Hot Buttered Rum Day! Now that’s something to get “steamed” up about! Did you know this toasty drink was a Colonial American favorite? The Pilgrims even brought rum to the New World because they thought it would help prevent scurvy. Talk about a “spirit-ed” approach to healthcare!

And speaking of spirits being lifted, on this day in 1953, the Chevrolet Corvette was unveiled at the General Motors Motorama! The first models only came in Polo White with red interiors. I guess you could say they really “car-ved” out their own style! The price tag? A whopping $3,498!

Birthday alert! The legendary Betty White would have turned 102 today! Here’s something that’ll make you giggle – her first job in entertainment was playing a phone operator… but she didn’t even own a phone! Talk about “dialing” up the irony! She held the record for the longest TV career of any entertainer – now that’s what I call “golden,” girl!

And here’s something to “kid” about – it’s Kid Inventors’ Day! Celebrating young inventors like Frank Epperson, who accidentally invented the Popsicle at age 11 by leaving a drink with a stirring stick outside on a cold night. Talk about a “cool” discovery!

SUPERMAN Couldn’t Fly?!? And is there really NOTHING to celebrate on January 16!

Have YOU heard? January 16
Today is National Nothing Day! That’s right, a day created in 1973 to celebrate… absolutely nothing! Talk about a “void” in the calendar! But here’s something – by celebrating Nothing Day, aren’t we actually celebrating something? That’s deep enough to make your brain hurt, isn’t it? I guess you could say it’s a “nothing burger” with everything on it!

Want to hear something that’ll really get your brain “popping?” Today in 1939, the first Superman comic strip appeared in newspapers! But here’s the “super” surprising part – Superman couldn’t fly in the early comics! He could only leap tall buildings in a single bound. I guess you could say he was more of a “hop” hero than a “caped” crusader!

And here’s something to “chew” on – it’s National Fig Newton Day! These cookies were named after Newton, Massachusetts, not Sir Isaac Newton. Though I bet he would have been “gravitated” towards them! They were first made in 1891 and the machines that made them were called “Newton Masters.” Talk about being the “master” of your craft!

National Hat Day and 4 other AMAZING things happening on January 15th!

Have YOU heard? January 15
Today is National Hat Day! And I’m not just “capping” off the day with that fact! Did you know the term “mad as a hatter” came from hat makers in the 1800s who went a little loopy from using mercury in the hat-making process? Talk about some “head-spinning” history! These days, we just tip our hats to safer manufacturing methods!

And speaking of manufacturing, on this day in 1889, the Coca-Cola Company was incorporated in Georgia! But here’s something that’ll make you bubble with surprise – the first Coca-Cola wasn’t even carbonated! Talk about starting flat and working your way up!

Birthday alert! The incredible Martin Luther King Jr. was born on this day in 1929! Here’s something you might not know – he skipped both the 9th and 12th grades and started college at just 15! Talk about having a “dream” academic career!

Today is also National Fresh Squeezed Juice Day! Orange you glad I told you that? Did you know it takes about 18 oranges to make one pitcher of fresh-squeezed juice? That’s what I call putting the “squeeze” on your fruit supply!

Here’s something to “chew” on but if you take too big of a bite you’re liable to get brain freeze – it’s National Strawberry Ice Cream Day too! The first recorded strawberry ice cream recipe dates back to 1813 in England!

Have YOU heard the big news? Marilyn and Joe WED!

Have YOU heard? January 14
Hold onto your spoons, because today is National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day! Now that’s something to “relish!” Did you know the word pastrami comes from the Romanian “păstra,” meaning “to preserve”? I guess you could say they really “preserved” this tradition! The sandwich was first created in New York’s kosher delis in the late 1800s – talk about a recipe for success!

And speaking of success, on this day in 1954, Marilyn Monroe married baseball legend Joe DiMaggio! Their marriage might have struck out after just 274 days, but hey, that’s still a longer run than some baseball seasons! You could say their love was more of a short stop than a home run!

Birthday alert! On this day in 1969, Jason Bateman came into the world! Before his “Arrested Development,” little Jason started acting at age 10 on “Little House on the Prairie.” I guess you could say he was “prairie-pared” for stardom from the start!

Want to hear something that’ll really get your gears turning? Today in 1794, Dr. Jesse Bennett performed the first successful cesarean section in America! Talk about a “delivery” that really made history! And get this – he performed it on his own wife! Now that’s what I call taking your work home with you!

And here’s something nuts – it’s also National Organize Your Home Day! Time to get your ducks in a row… and your socks in pairs! Did you know the average person spends one year of their life looking for misplaced items? Talk about a “cluttered” schedule!

Make a Splash: Get Your Ducks in a Row for National Rubber Ducky Day January 13!

Have YOU heard? January 13
Hold onto your rubber duckies, because today is National Rubber Ducky Day! These squeaky friends first paddled into our hearts in the 1800s, but they really made a splash on Sesame Street. I guess you could say they’re pretty “quack-tastic!” Did you know the world’s largest rubber duck was 61 feet tall? Talk about getting all your ducks in a row!

And speaking of things that float your boat, on this day in 1888, the National Geographic Society was founded! They sure “mapped” out their success well – get it? But here’s something that’ll really put you on the map: their first magazine didn’t have a single photograph in it! I guess you could say they were still developing their style!

Now, lettuce tell you about another celebration – it’s National Peach Melba Day! This dessert was created in 1892 by French chef Auguste Escoffier for opera singer Nellie Melba. Talk about hitting a sweet note! The chef was obviously thinking outside the box… the icebox, that is!

Here’s a birthday that’ll make you flip – Julia Louis-Dreyfus was born on this day in 1961! Before becoming the queen of comedy, she actually worked as a clown at birthday parties. I guess you could say she was just clowning around before making it big!

And here’s something that’ll really get your circuits buzzing – on January 13th, 1942, Henry Ford patented a plastic car body made from soybeans! Talk about bean-ing creative! Though it never made it to production, the car was 1,000 pounds lighter than steel cars. You could say it was ahead of its time, but the idea just didn’t grow on people!

January 10 is Eagle Day: A Mission to Protect Our Winged Wonders!
Have YOU heard? January 10th is National Bittersweet Chocolate Day! But here’s the sweet part – bittersweet chocolate was actually discovered by accident! Ancient Aztecs would ferment cacao beans to make drinks, and one day someone discovered that the fermented beans made a more complex, less sweet flavor. Today, true bittersweet chocolate must contain at least 35% pure chocolate! On January 10th, 1946, the first radar contact with the moon was made! The U.S. Army bounced radio signals off the lunar surface and received them back on Earth 2.4 seconds later. Talk about a long-distance call! Today is also National Save the Eagles Day! When this day was first established in 1975, there were only about 417 nesting pairs of bald eagles left in the lower 48 states. Today, thanks to conservation efforts, there are over 316,700! Now that’s what I call a comeback story! Want to hear something incredible? On this day in 1863, the world’s first underground railway opened in London! The Metropolitan line was just 3.75 miles long and was built using the ‘cut and cover’ method – basically digging a huge trench and covering it up. Today, the London Underground carries 5 million passengers every day! Today is National Houseplant Appreciation Day! But did you know that houseplants didn’t become popular until the Victorian era? People thought keeping plants indoors was impossible until physician Nathaniel Ward accidentally discovered that plants could thrive in sealed glass containers in 1829! 💚🎤 #haveyouheard

January 9th: The RUMOR of the Original iPhone Launch!
Have YOU heard? January 9th is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. It started in 2015 to show support for our officers in blue. Fun fact: the first organized police force in America began in Boston in 1838 with just six full-time officers. Today, there are over 800,000 police officers serving communities across the nation! On January 9, 1934, archaeologists discovered the remains of a 10,000-year-old giant ground sloth in New Mexico! These prehistoric creatures were the size of modern elephants and stood up to 20 feet tall on their hind legs. The first iPhone was unveiled by Steve Jobs on January 9, 2007. But here’s what most people don’t know: the iPhone shown during that famous presentation wasn’t fully functional! The prototype was so fragile that Jobs had to follow a very specific demo sequence to prevent it from crashing. Talk about a high-stakes performance! Want to hear something truly amazing? On this day in 1793, Jean-Pierre Blanchard completed the first successful hot air balloon flight in North America! He carried a letter from George Washington, making it the first-ever air mail delivery in America. 💚🎤 #haveyouheard

JANUARY 8th BABY – ELVIS, SLINKIES AND BUBBLE BATHS!
Have YOU heard? January 8th is National Winter Skin Relief Day. Perfect timing, right? This day reminds us to take care of our skin during the harsh winter months. Fun fact: human skin sheds about 600,000 particles of skin every hour! That’s why your mother always told you to moisturize! On this day in 1889, Dr. Herman Hollerith received a patent for his “Electronic Tabulating Machine” – the grandfather of modern computers! This incredible invention used punch cards to process data and was first used to tabulate the 1890 U.S. Census. It reduced the processing time from 7 years to just 2.5 years! Talk about a time-saver! Today is National English Toffee Day! This buttery confection actually isn’t English at all. The American version is made with almonds, while traditional English toffee doesn’t include nuts at all. Who knew we were putting our own spin on this sweet treat? On January 8th, 1835, the U.S. national debt was $0 for the first and only time in history! President Andrew Jackson had paid off the entire national debt. Now that’s something you don’t see every day! It’s also National Bubble Bath Day! The first recorded use of soap bubbles for entertainment dates back to the 17th century in paintings by Dutch artists. They used bubble-blowing as a symbol of the fleeting nature of life. Pretty deep for something so fun, right? Did you know that on January 8, 1943, inventor Richard James was working with tension springs when he accidentally knocked one off a shelf? He watched in amazement as it “walked” down instead of falling, and that’s how the Slinky was born! The first 400 Slinkys sold out within 90 minutes at their debut in 1945. Today, over 300 million Slinkys have been sold worldwide! Hey baby, Elvis Presley was born on this day in 1935! But here’s something you might not know – he was actually a twin! His brother, Jesse Garon, was stillborn, making Elvis a twinless twin. The King never forgot his brother and often spoke about wondering how different life would have been with him around. 💚🎤 #haveyouheard

Don’t Miss BOBBLEHEADS and OLD ROCKS Day – JANUARY 7th!
Have YOU heard? January 7, 1927, the first transatlantic telephone service was established between New York and London? Imagine the excitement when people could finally hear voices across the ocean! The service cost a whopping $75 for just three minutes – that’s about $1,200 in today’s money! Talk about an expensive phone call! January 7th is National Bobblehead Day! These quirky collectibles actually date back to the 1760s in Germany, where they were called “nodders.” But it wasn’t until the 1960s that sports teams started creating bobbleheads of their players, launching these wobbling wonders into pop culture history! Today is also International Programming Beast Day! It celebrates the world’s first computer programmer, Ada Lovelace, who wrote the first algorithm intended for a machine back in the 1840s. She was doing computer programming before computers even existed! How’s that for being ahead of her time? January 7th is Old Rock Day! No, not the musical kind – we’re talking about actual rocks! Geologists worldwide celebrate this day by studying and appreciating ancient rocks and fossils. On this day in 1894, W.K. Dickson received a patent for motion picture film. Without his invention, you wouldn’t be watching this video right now! Talk about a game-changer! 💚🎤 #haveyouheard

Today is the perfect time to Cuddle Up with a Shortbread Cookie!
Have YOU heard? Today in 1907, the first commercial flight in the United States took place, marking a significant milestone in aviation history. Imagine the excitement and wonder as people witnessed this groundbreaking event! And speaking of excitement, today is National Shortbread Day! This buttery, crumbly cookie is a beloved treat around the world, and today is the perfect day to indulge in its deliciousness. But that’s not all! Today is also National Cuddle Up Day. So grab your loved ones, your pets, or even just a cozy blanket, and enjoy some warm and fuzzy moments. Now, let’s delve into some quirky trivia. Did you know that the world’s smallest mammal is the bumblebee bat, weighing in at a mere 2 grams? That’s lighter than a penny! And finally, a bit of holiday cheer. Today is Epiphany, also known as Three Kings Day. It’s a Christian holiday that commemorates the visit of the Magi to the baby Jesus. In many cultures, it’s celebrated with colorful parades, festive meals, and the exchange of gifts. 💚🎤 #haveyouheard
